Conservation Work
Local heritage groups proud of the Township's designated heritage building, encouraged the Township to purchase the property and embark on restoration. Included in this project was the excavation and refitting of the castle's basement as a fireproof, climate controlled repository for local historical records and archival materials.
In order to maintain the unique historical site, Castle Kilbride participates regularly in conservation work on the trompe l’oeil murals throughout the home. Conservators from Parks Canada with specialized training in wall murals and trompe l’oeil return frequently to monitor the home.
Areas of the walls and ceilings throughout the home that need attention are consolidated to prevent further flaking.
